How to Schedule your Study Sessions?
The Problem…
Most of the students never achieve the result they desired for the exam. A student who thought to score 100% may get 90%, or someone expecting 80 gets end up with 70% or less. The question is why most of the students always perform less than their expectation? Is it about the calibre as well over expectation of students or reason is something different?
During our research in more than 1200 schools and over a million students we realise that it not about student’s calibre but it depends on how our education system trained them. In the learning processes such as reading, writing, comprehending, drawing, and solving we never practice time-based learning. They read and write but except Exam time there is no way students continuously write for three hours. In the whole academic year students are hardly bother about time bound study performance. That is the reason students are not aware of their competencies in the areas such as Reading efficiency, reading comprehension, reading speed and Writing speed. During exams they plan their study schedules but hardly get success, due to ignorance about their reading and writing competencies and their exam performance goes below the desire level. Just before exams they are not able to complete syllabus on time due to slow reading speed and during three hours in the examination hall, they are not able to write as it was desired or expected due to slow writing speed. Because of these students always have less time to revise their syllabus on time resulting into more stress and poor performance in exams. This thing gets converted into “sense of failure”, if repeated again and again student will lead to serious stress or sometimes depression.
The Solution is Selection …
In the process of selection, you set your target and time period n which you want to finish it (Time Frame or Time Window). Before you start any study session your mind must have a complete clarity about what you are going to learn and what is your time frame. It helps your brain and mind to stay focused. Have dedicated time and a very specific target, it will help you to concentrate more on your studies. So, every time you start your study session practice selection process where you consciously decide -what to study in the particular time window.
Why and how to practice SELECTION for Studies
You need to understand, why to select target for immediate study session. The idea is to give your mind every specific target to chase. When you have clear idea, what you’re going to do and what is your time limit, you always have better concentration and most of the cases you achieve your target.
There could be two different possibilities when you select your target. First, you can get your target and that will give you lots of confidence. The more you will achieve the more confidence you’ll have to do more. If you experience a success on everyday basis, your faith in yourself gets increased day by day; it gives you a feeling of self-worth which is an excellent feeling to build your confidence for life and studies.
Second possibility can be; you are not able to achieve what you decided. This is again a wonderful opportunity for you, because most of the time students don’t have an idea how much they can do in their academic, they don’t have an idea about their reading speed, writing speed, how much we can comprehend in one hour, and because of that when they set up their schedule for exam preparation, most of the time they are not able to achieve desired results. So, in this second case when you decide and don’t achieve what you decided you get an idea about your own strength. Sense of self power and competencies can help you in the different walks of life. How much you will read in one hour, how much you can write in one hour, how much you can comprehend in one hour. These different experiences will build on and you will have a very good clarity about what you can and cannot. With this understanding you can plan and perform better in your exams and life.
When you select target for yourself, you need to know that this target must be very specific and you should be able to measure it in some way. Specific and measurable time bound target have always been a better choice than no target for studies. You can write about your daily, weekly, monthly targets once you practice selection for a long time.
